Welcome to the February 2014 issue of LargeCarMag online! In this issue, we have show coverage from the 2013 Corpatch Dual Wheel Classic by Steve Ford and Budds Creek by Bruce Secrist. We also have a feature on Brent Cross’s 2000 Kenworth W900L, and of course we have our Reader’s Rides, Riding Around, Flashback, and Diesel Doodles features.

Brent Cross
Brent Cross, of Goshen, IN owns this beautiful 2000 Kenworth W900L. It looks as good as new, because it practically is, though it boasts 1.7 million miles! He redid this truck a year ago, with the help of friends.

February 2014 Reader’s Rides
Robby Gains sent us these pictures of his 1981 Kenworth W900A. Robby tells us he is the fourth owner however Robby used to drive it for one of the previous owners ( Jackie Rookard) running it between Chicago and Florida hauling meat and produce.

2013 Corpatch Dual Wheel Classic
On June 8th I made my way back to Hubbard Iowa for the annual Cornpatch Dual Wheel Classic. This year the date was moved up a week to put it on the same weekend as Hubbard Days, this proved to be a great move!

Budd’s Creek
The Big Rig Truck Nationals was held June 23rd after being rescheduled for rain. Despite the new date over 60 trucks showed up and participated in everything from a truck beauty contest to a burn out contest to diesel drag racing. Bruce Secrist caught all the action for us, great job Bruce!

February 2014 Flashback
Back in the early 90s I took a trip up to Mcveytown Pennsylvania to visit my friend Steve Bratton, while there I stopped by Class 1 Transport’s yard and caught all these large rides.

February 2014 Diesel Doodles
Eight year old Tyler drew this awesome doodle of his papa’s 2011 Peterbilt.

Welcome to the March 2014 issue of LargeCarMag online! In this issue, we have show coverage from the Iowa 80 Truck Stop’s 34th Annual Trucker’s Jamboree by Alicia Kohls and Greg Beckwith. We also have a feature on Mark Strawder’s 1953 Pete 350, and of course we have our Retro Rhetoric, Truckin’ Tattoo, Model of the Month, Flashback, and Diesel Doodles features.

Mark Strawder
Mark Strawder, owns the elegant 1953 Peterbilt 350 you see here. Sitting on a 310” wheelbase, the chassis that this truck is sitting on, is actually from a 50th Anniversary Peterbilt truck.

March 2014 Retro Rhetoric
Its back to the west coast for this issue’s Retro Rhetoric. The story actually begins in Northwest Iowa where Gerrit Hulstein Jr. was born in 1918. After growing up on a farm, Gerrit made his move to Southern California and enlisted in the army. During basic training at Fort Lewis, Washington, he met Pete Birch from Tehachapi, California. Gerrit and Pete were sent to the South Pacific and fought together the entire war.

March 2014 Model of the Month
Robert Ward sent us this model that Gary Johnson built for him. The 1960 931 Diamond T is based on a Western Steamship Supply truck.

Iowa 80’s 34th Trucker’s Jamboree (Greg Beckwith)
Once again we made the journey to Walcott, Iowa for the Annual Trucker’s Jamboree held July 11-13, 2013! I have always enjoyed this show because of the variety of trucks, both new and old that are displayed as well as the people. Everyone is friendly, very humble and always willing to talk shop!

Iowa 80’s 34th Trucker’s Jamboree (Alicia Kohls)
Thousands made the journey to the truck stop mecca, Iowa 80 Truck Stop’s 34th Annual Trucker’s Jamboree July 11th-13th. The I-80 Truck Stop, as it’s affectionately called, is worth the drive itself. The massive complex held ample parking and entertainment for the over 40,000 drivers and spectators.

March 2014 Flashback
I caught this large 359 off exit 104 of I-95 in Virginia back in the early 90’s. I sure wish I had waited to get a clean shot of it pulled away from the fuel pumps.

March 2014 Diesel Doodle
Four year old Westin Martin sent us this doodle of a very large cabover.

March 2014 Truckin’ Tattoo
Travis Yates of Williamston South Carolina stopped by our booth in Louisville and shared these very cool tattoos with us.
